BETTING PREVIEW
I think there is value in the 1.80 offered by BetVictor on a Nigerian win against Burkina Faso in South Africa. In the last tournament, contested just last year, the Burkinabe crashed out without picking up a single point!
It gets worse, for Burkina Faso have in fact not won an African Cup of Nations match in 17 recent attempts! Now they face a country that were dominant in the continent a few years ago, but who suffered the humiliation of not even qualifying for the tournament the last time around.
Nigeria will therefore be a dangerous opponent in the two countries opener, as the Super Eagles look to start their tournament with a bang.
It's crucial Nigeria beat Burkina Faso, for their next 2 matches are against the reigning champions, Zambia and then Ethiopia. Zambia may well have points from their opener, played earlier in the day. A loss here or even a draw and Nigeria will then have to hope for results to go their way as they might drop points against Zambia.
The Super Eagles have a a couple of Premier League big shots amongst their ranks. Both Victor Moses and Obi Mikel ply their trade at Stamford Bridge. Their main striker, Uche, who plays for Villareal, has 3 goals in qualifications, and will be a solid threat here.
THE BETTING VERDICT
I think the motivation from being back in the tournament will be enough, coupled with the superior talent, to beat Burkina Faso.
The odds are slightly better than fair so I will recommend a Nigeria win, but I have a feeling Burkina Faso may well concede more than once while chasing the game and we have a chance at the win coming by a more comfortable margin.
So, let's chase the bigger return using the AH.
The Pick :
Nigeria 2-0 Burkina Faso
