HARTLEPOOL UNITED
Bottom of League One, Hartlepool United, play host to a Bournemouth side with play-off ambitions whilst the home side are also looking to pick up points in an attempt to escape the dreaded drop into League Two.
With just one league win from their last twenty three matches though, and despite having home ‘advantage’ here, this looks a very tall order for the north-east outfit particularly against a resurgent Bournemouth side who have improved out of sight since the return of manager Eddie Howe.
Hartlepool’s solitary win during this period was actually the shock result of the season in this division when they beat play-off candidates Sheffield United at Bramall Lane 3-2 at the end of December, but sadly this was the exception rather than the rule and the following defeat at home to Preston NE has confirmed their plight.
Hartlepool’s home record stands at a miserable 1-3-8 8/20, and they are the league’s lowest goalscorers at home having failed to score on six occasions. Not only that, but they’ve now suffered six straight defeats at Victoria Park having lost to Crawley Town 0-1, Tranmere Rovers 0-2, Coventry City 0-5, Oldham Athletic 1-2, Stevenage 0-2 and Preston NE 0-1 which doesn’t make for happy reading if you’re a Pools fan.
BOURNEMOUTH
Visitors Bournemouth suffered their first defeat in fifteen league matches when they lost at Walsall 1-3 at the weekend and will no doubt be champing at the bit to correct this blip in form and secure all the points at Hartlepool on Tuesday night. Indeed, all three points for Bournemouth here would lift them up into the last remaining play-off place and move MK Dons onto the fringes.
Until the Walsall result, Bournemouth had strung together some impressive results on the road with wins at Carlisle United and Doncaster Rovers along with getting a point at Brentford, but let’s also remember that Walsall have won their last four on the trot as the midlanders have rekindled their early season form.
Bournemouth’s away record stands at 4-4-5 19/25 but this has improved as well in the last few weeks and they should have enough about them to edge out poor and weary Hartlepool United.
THE BETTING VERDICT:
The play-off carrot is now dangling for Eddie Howe’s men following a disastrous start to the season and I’m going to back them to take up the offer on Tuesday night by taking all three points back to the south coast with them with a 2-0 away win here.
