English League One

2013-01-22 - Brentford vs Leyton Orient

A Sports Betting Pick by ArmchairPunter

BRENTFORD v LEYTON ORIENT
Football – England – League One
Tuesday 22nd January 2013 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

Brentford, fourth in League One, will be keen to bounce back from their defeat to Tranmere Rovers last weekend when they host mid-table Leyton Orient at Griffin Park on Tuesday night.

BRENTFORD

That defeat to league leaders Tranmere was their first loss in thirteen league matches and it was of course to the joint-best team in the division so I guess we should cut them some slack.

Brentford will, however, want to grab all the points this evening though against an inconsistent Leyton Orient outfit and attempt to reduce the deficit on Tranmere and Doncaster Rovers to just four points.

Brentford’s home record stands at a solid 8-3-2 22/13 despite that recent defeat, and they’ve kept five clean sheets at Griffin Park which will go a long way to taking the points against a travelling Leyton Orient side who are not exactly prolific goalscorers away from home.

As mentioned in my previous Brentford preview, striker Clayton Donaldson, Harry Forrester and Adam Forshaw are the main attacking threats for The Bees and this time they should make an impression against a weaker Leyton Orient outfit.

LEYTON ORIENT

Onto the visitors then, and Leyton Orient have won just once in their last five League One matches which was a 2-1 home win over Walsall at the end of December, but they’ve suffered losses against Scunthorpe United 1-3 at home, and 0-3 and 0-2 defeats on the road at Yeovil Town and Doncaster Rovers respectively.

In between these losses they could only muster a point against mid-table Crewe Alexandra, taking their tally to just four points from the last 15 on offer.

The O’s’ away form has been sporadic in terms of success and recent wins at Carlisle United, Portsmouth and Bury have been off-set by back-to-back defeats at Yeovil and Doncaster who incidentally have far better home records than the latter two of Portsmouth and Bury.

Leyton Orient’s away record looks like 5-1-7 14/19 and as previously mentioned, they are only behind Colchester United (9), Hartlepool United (11) and Shrewsbury Town (13) in away goals scored so far in the division. In fact, Leyton Orient have failed to score on six occasions while keeping just two clean sheets on their travels so far.

Striker Kevin Lisbie (9 goals) is The O’s leading scorer but he didn’t figure at Doncaster while Dean Cox (7 assists) has been the main provider. Brentford will also need to keep an eye on striker Charlie Macdonald who is a former Brentford player himself having scored 11 goals for MK Dons last season.

THE BETTING VERDICT:

In summary, I’ll tip Brentford to bounce back at Griffin Park against a weaker Leyton Orient side who have found the going tough away from home recently, and I’ll go for a 2-1 scoreline for The Bees here tonight.

The Pick :

Brentford 2 Leyton Orient 1
