Inter Milan came back from the winter break and got beaten 3-0 at Udinese, but bounced back with a 2-0 home win against Pescara. Bologna were beaten 2-0 at Genoa but won 4-0 last weekend against Chievo. Nice little boost for both sides before they contest a game that will be very important for both.
Strangely, it is the away team that has won each of the last 3 meetings, and each time the visitor has scored 3 goals! One of those games saw Bologna win 3-0 here, but that was in February last season. The last meeting ended with Inter winning 3-1 in Bologna.
Inter Milan may sit 4th, 10 places above their visitors, but I am concerned by the fact that win against Pescara was their first in Italy since early December. They are facing a Bologna side that has a massive scalp already this season, when they knocked out reigning champions Napoli.
I think the odds on the Inter Milan win are way too short, and Bologna are the value pick in this one, as no doubt people all over are lumping on Inter to win, based on reputation and the fact they are home. No such guarantees in football, especially when they have poor form and the opponents are showing signs of being very dangerous in Cup games.
BETTING VERDICT
I think Inter Milan should just about take it, 2-1, but might need ET to get past Bologna, who are sure to give them a hard evening.
With that chance of a draw, before settling the tie in ET (which happened in the Juve/Milan tie) I'm going to opt against bets on a win and take both sides to have a say in 90 minutes.
