This game isn't quite what it used to be as Liverpool are no longer a title contender but the hostility still remains and it is likely to be a raucous affair when league leaders Manchester United entertain their Merseyside rivals.
Liverpool lost 2-1 at home earlier this season, and would like nothing better than to give the Red Devils a headache by stealing 3 points they cannot afford to drop with Manchester City and Chelsea chasing.
Manchester United have in fact won the last 2 league games with Liverpool, both ending 2-1. United may be on a good run at the moment, with wins in their last 3 league games, but Liverpool too have improved their results, beating QPR and Sunderland 3-0 each and coming into this off a 2-1 FA Cup win over Mansfield.
Manchester United drew their last game, needing a very late Robin Van Persie goal at West Ham to secure an FA Cup replay.
And it is Robin Van Persie that interests me here. The Dutch striker is currently top of the goalscoring table with 16 goals, and have actually done very well against Liverpool, scoring 5 goals against them in his last 6 meetings. It was him that scored the winner earlier this season when Manchester United visited Anfield.
The Red Devils are the pick for the win this Sunday, as they have been great at home, winning their last 7 straight games at home and not losing any of their last 9 matches. The team will have Nani and Anderson back but Rooney is set to miss out as he is given leave after his wife's little sister recently passed away.
THE BETTING VERDICT
As this is a hot headed affair, there is likely to be a red card, and I must give Liverpool enough respect as they do tend to raise their game against Manchester United.
Rooney misses out so the goals will surely come from Robin Van Persie, who has Liverpool's number. You can bet on him scoring at any time at the same odds as the United win, and that is what I will take here as my side bet.
My main bet is a bit of a hail mary, but why not have some fun this Sunday with the big odds available on a score we have seen in the last 3 meetings, twice in favour of United!
