English League Two

2013-01-12 - Cheltenham Town vs York City

A Sports Betting Pick by ArmchairPunter

CHELTENHAM TOWN v YORK CITY
Football – England – League Two
Saturday 12th January 2013 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

CHELTENHAM TOWN

This match features two teams that have produced some mixed results over the last few weeks, but Cheltenham Town in fourth place could leapfrog Rotherham United if they take all the points against visitors York City today at Whaddon Road.

Cheltenham beat Northampton Town 3-2 away a club that is sitting on the fringe of the play-off pack and also Wycombe Wanderers on Boxing Day at home, but they’ve also lost to Rochdale and Oxford United although these were both away from home.

With an automatic promotion place up for grabs, Cheltenham Town will be relying on their solid home form to squeeze past their rivals as their record currently stands at 8-2-2 21/11, and along with Bradford City they possess the best defensive record at home in League Two. Six clean sheets so far tells it’s own story, with four of them coming in their last five at home with wins to nil against Exeter City 3-0, Burton Albion 1-0, Barnet 1-0 and Wycombe Wanderers 4-0.

Leading scorers for The Robins are Carter and Harrad (5 goals apiece) with midfielder Carter also supplying 2 assists, and they have support from Goulding and Kaid Mohamed (3 goals each) and Billy Jones has supplied the ammunition with 8 assists.

YORK CITY

As previously mentioned, both teams have had mixed results of late and the same goes for visitors York City who have recorded wins over Bristol Rovers 4-1 and Burton Albion 3-0, but the exact opposite to Cheltenham’s losses, York’s recent wins have come at home. Defeats against Chesterfield and Exeter City have meant that York remain in a mid-table position, while they still need to work on their away form.

York’s away record currently stands at 4-6-3 16/17 and The Minstermen have won just once in their last six matches on the road which was a 3-2 win at Rochdale. The concern for York though will be the fact that they’ve failed to score in their last three away from home on the trot with the following results; 0-2 at Plymouth Argyle, 0-3 at Chesterfield and a 0-0 draw at Fleetwood Town.

Jason Walker (7 goals) is York’s leading scorer and he has Blair (4 goals, 3 assists) along with McLaughlin (3 goals, 3 assists) in assistance, but they are really missing the services of Ashley Chambers (8 goals, 4 assists).

THE BETTING VERDICT:

Cheltenham have a huge incentive today to take the points and with home advantage and their solid form at Whaddon Road behind them, I’ll take them with the handicap at a pretty reasonable price; should be a 2-1 win for Cheltenham I feel.
