BETTING PREVIEW
Saint-Etienne are 10th and only 1 point ahead of their visitors, who are 12th with 26 points after 19 games. It is the home side that have the stronger defence, and that coupled with home form should see them through this game.
Saint-Etienne have actually not won a league game in a while, losing to Lyon, Lorient and Marseille and drawing with Bordeaux. They may have lost their last league match, but performed well enough defensively for it to be the narrowest of losses, going down just 1-0 at Marseille, who are up challenging for the lead. Itʼs important to note those losses were in December, and that since coming back this year, they have won their first match, albeit a cup game, scoring 3 at Caen.
Toulouse won 2-0 at home against Sochaux in their last league match, but before that they too lost 1-0 at home to Marseille and were blanked 2-0 at Lille. Bastia managed to hold them to a 0-0 draw, and even in their first match back they could muster just 1 goal in a win at Boulogne. It leaves me wondering whether they will manage to score the 2 goals I feel are necessary to have a chance at getting points at Saint-Etienne.
I think we must consider the home and away form for this one. Saint-Etienne have won 5 of their 10 home games while Toulouse have lost 5 of 9 away games. Also, the home side have conceded just 14 goals through 19 games, well under 1 per game, while Toulouse have conceded 20, but scored just 1 more than the 24 Saint-Etienne have managed. The home side, on paper, certainly seem the right side.
THE BETTING VERDICT
Thanks to those poor results in December, weʼre getting a pretty good looking price on Saint-Etienne to win this match, and I think Iʼll have a small bet on the home side getting the win.
The Pick :
Saint-Etienne 2-1 Toulouse
