Newcastle Jets (8th)
The Christmas New Year break has not been kind to the Jets, they secured only 1 point in the last 3 games, a scoreless draw against Adelaide -albeit that the Jets would be happy for the clean sheet, a 1st this season)
There is an injury cloud over Ruben Zadkovich (captain) and Emile Heskey (striker) and both are in doubt for this match.
Regular captain Jobe Wheelhouse will most likely take Zadkovich’s place, in the case of Heskey’s “minor strain” this might have healed by Saturday but should see him given a break from the starting line-up, possibly coming on late from the subs bench.
Brisbane Roar (7th)
In contrast the Roar picked up 2 wins in their last 3 outings, only losing to the Melbourne Heart 2-3 last week, despite being a man down, and the victim of poor linesman’s decision that gifted the Heart their 2nd goal just before half time.
That game was a window into Brisbane’s soul, they started the match strongly but dropped their heads once the defensive frailties were exposed and the Heart were 1 goal up.
At 3-0 down Brisbane started to take the game to the opposition and scored 2 goals and were looking like the team most likely to score in the closing minutes.
Brisbane have used the transfer window to pick up a much needed defender on Tuesday, Jade North. He is likely to partner Matt Smith in central defence thus relegating Matthew Jurman to the bench.
Besart Berisha – The Albanian forward has struggled this season, but his two goals at the Heart last weekend signals he is finding form, and now has 8 goals for the season.
The Betting Verdict
If we look at this season’s stats we see the Newcastle Jets having a reasonable Home record , and the Brisbane Roar having a poor AWAY record.
Throw those statistics out the window, the Roar are on the rise, and look to have turned the season around.
How about this statistic - Brisbane have only lost once when travelling to Newcastle in 13 visits.
The Pick :
Newcastle Jets 1 - 3 Brisbane Roar
