BOLTON
Disappointing Bolton take on Millwall at the Reebok Stadium on Saturday afternoon as the hosts look to post back-to-back home wins for only the second time this season.
Bolton have undoubtedly been one of the under-performers so far this term along with Birmingham City and Wolves, but they do have a good chance of collecting all three points against visiting Millwall today as the London club haven’t won in their last three on the road.
Bolton’s recent form has been patchy with wins over Charlton Athletic 2-0 and Birmingham City 3-1, but have suffered strange defeats against Peterborough United 4-5 away and a 0-1 loss at home to third from bottom club Sheffield Wednesday along with a 0-1 loss at Leeds United on New Years Day.
However, Bolton’s home record is a pretty solid one considering they currently occupy a lower half position in the Championship ladder; 6-4-3 20/14 and they’ve recorded wins over Derby County, Watford, Bristol City and Championship leaders Cardiff City so The Trotters shouldn’t be underestimated here.
Experienced campaigners Chris Eagles (7 goals, 12 assists) and striker Kevin Davies (6 goals, 6 assists) represent the major goal threats along with Lee Chung-Yong and N’gog (4 goals apiece) and they still present plenty of threats going forward with Bolton’s away form holding them back from occupying a higher league position.
MILLWALL
Visitors Millwall have had a pretty successful season in the Championship so far and their first half of the season exploits currently sees them in 7th place just on the edge of the play-off pack behind only on goal difference to Watford.
Recent wins over Leicester City 1-0 and Bristol City 2-1 have kept them in the hunt for an unlikely play-off place, but both of these wins have been on home soil where The Lions have been solid so far. However, away from home it’s not quite the same story with a record of 4-5-4 19/20 and they have taken just one point from their last three away matches courtesy of a 2-2 draw at Brighton.
Defeats at back in-form Ipswich Town and Cardiff City have dented their play-off hopes and they now face another tricky fixture at Bolton who as mentioned earlier, have been quite solid at home this term. Millwall’s main goal threats come from forward Darius Henderson (7 goals, 2 assists) and midfielder Liam Trotter (6 goals, 3 assists).
THE BETTING VERDICT:
Bolton’s current league position I believe is not a true reflection and they’ll be pressing for all three points at home in this one which I’m confident they can achieve – a 2-1 win for Bolton here but I recommend giving the quarter ball for a little insurance.
The Pick :
Bolton 2 Millwall 1
