Match Preview :
Arsenal travels to the St. Mary Stadium to play Southampton hoping to kick off 2013 the same manner they ended 2012 - in a winning style.
After beating Newcastle 7-3 in their last match of 2012, Arsene Wenger's side will be coming into this match full of confidence and hoping to record yet another win.
Former Southampton player Theo Walcott scored a hat-trick in that game and will hope to start against his ex-club for the first time since leaving in January 2006.
Walcott made a 15-minute substitute appearance in September's 6-1 win over Southampton at Emirates Stadium and scored Arsenal's sixth goal and will be hoping to get on the scoresheets in this match once again.
In their last match the Saints played out to a 3-3 draw with Stoke City, who are normally very defensive minded and Adkins knows they need to be more defensive if they are to avoid the drop.
It should be noted however that each of Southampton's last five home league games have featured under 2.5 goals. Looking at Southampton's last three home games we can see that there have been less than 2.5 goals in it as they lost to Sunderland 1-0, beat Reading 1-0 and drew with Norwich 1-1.
Going on this fact alone, I am going for this match to be a low scoring affair as Southampton will limit Arsenal from scoring as they did in their last match.

The home side are expected to make changes and will be without captain Adam Lallana once again. The midfielder suffered a knee problem in the game with Reading at the beginning of December and has not played since then.
Nigel Adkins could decide to recall playmaker Gaston Ramirez after making several changes against Stoke City in the dramatic 3-3 draw.
Arsenal Team News :
Arsenal centre-back Per Mertesacker could be available after illness for this match. Czech midfielder Tomas Rosicky was left on the bench for Saturday's 7-3 win over Newcastle, so may start this match as well.
Defender Andre Santos (stomach muscle) and midfielder Abou Diaby (thigh) are expected to start training again this week but definitely misses out this match.
