So the German Bundesliga season is now on it's Christmas break but there is this cup game to be played before the reigning league champions can begin their recuperation.

Dortmund, league champions the last 2 years, sit 3rd, 12 points off Bayern Munich, so will surely be putting their everything into this game, where they take on Hannover, who are 11th in the league with a defence that is more than suspect.

Hannover are at a disadvantage anyway, as their shaky defence is coming up against a very dangerous Dortmund attack, but on the road that disadvantage is magnified. Also, they have a host of important players missing (Stindl, Felipe, Andreasen...) so they are even weaker for it.

Dortmund will field a full strength side as they are going on break after this, and of course they want to retain the this Cup, which they won last year, seeing as there is a good chance they won't come near to defending the league title, what with Bayern Munich playing the way they are.

Hannover just have not convinced at all, and got here after a penalty shootout against Dresden in the last round.

Meanwhile, Dortmund are showing exactly how ruthless they can be in this tournament, winning out 4-1 in their last round against Aalen. Gotze netted in that last game, and will be a threat here again, along with Lewandowski, who is always a value bet to score.

Hannover have a defence that cannot keep out Dortmund, and while the league match this year ended in a 1-1 draw in Hannover, the last 2 league meetings in Dortmund have ended 3-1 and 4-1 to the reigning League and Cup champs. Only one winner in this for me.

BETTING VERDICT

I've got to take Dortmund, but to get a decent return I'll take them giving up 1.5 on the AH, as I think they should win this by at least a couple of goals.
