A Sports Betting Pick by ArmchairPunter

SWINDON TOWN v TRANMERE ROVERS
Football – England – League One
Friday 21st December 2012 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

SWINDON TOWN

The County Ground in Swindon is my next venue as hosts Swindon Town take on League One leaders Tranmere Rovers on Friday night.

Swindon Town continue to flirt with the play-off pack without really putting together a convincing winning run or sequence or even an unbeaten run as recent results will indicate; a 4-1 home win over Yeovil Town was then followed up with back-to-back defeats against Brentford at home and Notts County away, a 1-1 draw with Doncaster Rovers, and then a 2-0 away win at Oldham Athletic.

Swindon’s home record stands at 4-4-3 16/8 and The Robins have actually fared better on their travels rather than in front of their own fans on home ground. Indeed, it’s a staggering one league win at home in their last seven matches at the County Ground which opens the door for my selection tonight.

Rafaele De Vita (6 goals) and Matt Ritchie (8 goals, 5 assists) are the two main goal threats for Swindon along with Jim Collins (5 goals).

TRANMERE ROVERS

Tranmere Rovers have maintained their challenge at the top of League One for automatic promotion having lost just once in their last eight matches, but they will be keen to return to taking all three points on offer instead of just one as they’ve drawn five during this run. As a result, Brentford have caught them up on 41 points while Sheffield United and Doncaster Rovers are both just one point behind and MK Dons two points adrift.

Manager Ronnie Moore will therefore be impressing on his squad the importance of getting something from this Friday’s match at Swindon and they should be good enough for at least a draw here tonight.

Tranmere recorded back-to-back away wins at Hartlepool United and Oldham Athletic last month and have taken points at Stevenage and Sheffield United also on their travels. Tranmere’s away record stands at a solid 6-4-1 18/8 with their one defeat on the road coming at a resurgent Bournemouth back in October. Since then they’ve put together a four match unbeaten run.

Jake Cassidy (11 goals, 2 assists) and Andy Robinson (8 goals, 2 assists) along with forward Adam McGurk (5 assists) should create chances and perhaps a goal or two, so I see them at least holding their own here perhaps even winning it.

THE BETTING VERDICT:

Swindon’s form has been a little inconsistent and I’m therefore backing the visitors here tonight with the three-quarter ball at good odds as I’m confident that Tranmere can get a point at the County Ground with a view to winning it perhaps 2-1.

The Pick :

Swindon Town 1 Tranmere Rovers 1
