The host Catania managed to end their losing streak when they won last weekend but Sampdoria suffered a defeat to end their three match unbeaten run.

Ciro Ferrara blamed their poor defending as well as naive mistakes for the defeat. Nicola Pozzi also saw his penalty kick saved. That defeat saw Sampdoria go just three points above the relegation zone and they must quickly bounce back in this match.
It should be noted that Sampdoria have won just once since the 1970's when they visit the Stadio Angelo Massimino, though they have won on five visits in total. Two seasons ago when they clashed here, Catania won for the eighth time.
