Siena’s 6 point penalty is dragging them down a lot at the moment, they are currently 19th on the table, but they haven’t lost contact with the pack yet.
However, Cosmi’s side needs to pick up some points as soon as possible and hosting Catania here could be an excellent opportunity to record their 5th win of the season.
After an excellent run of five games without a defeat, Siena were unable to held AS Roma to at least a draw and lost their first match since the end of October. It wasn’t a poor performance from Siena, but Roma have managed to turn the game around with only four minutes from time.
There are no important absences form Siena’s squad which means that Serse Cosmi will use his typical 3-4-2-1 formation with Calaio in front supported by Valiani and Rosina.
Catania (10th W5 D4 L6)
Catania dropped to the 10th position after losing their last two Serie A games by 3-1, the first one in Palermo and then at home to AC Milan.
The Sicilians took the lead against Milan, but they couldn’t hold on in the second half, a solid performance from Milan gave them no chance to avoid the defeat. The Rossoneri only needed 8 minutes from the second period to come from behind.
There are not many reasons for Catania’s fans to be confident ahead of this trip, their favorites failed to win any of their last seven games in Serie A, losing four of them.
Furthermore, coach Maran has to deal with a number of absences from every compartment, since Spolli and Bellusci in defence, Izco and Biagianti in midfield, and Barrientos up front have all been ruled out.
The Betting Verdict
Siena must be frustrated with the way they ended up losing to AS Roma, it’s always painful to lose points after a good performances especially when you concede the decisive goals in the dying minutes of the match.
However, they have a good opportunity here to bounce back with a win, they have been solid this season at the Artemio Franchi stadium, keeping six clean sheets, only Udinese, Juve and Roma managed to score there.
Catania should find it hard to improve their disastrous away record with so many absences, they are actually one of the two sides from Serie A yet to win on the road this season.
