English League Two

2012-12-08 - Plymouth vs York City

A Sports Betting Pick by Auls

Plymouth v York City
Football: English League Two
Saturday 8 December 2012 - Kick Off 3pm

Plymouth

A really poor run of form has sent Plymouth spiralling towards the bottom of League Two and the pressure is on to reverse that as soon as possible. The club have been suffering with financial issues in recent seasons and the days of being a Championship club are long gone, while relegation outside of League football will surely put an end to the club.

Plymouth are 21st in League Two and now find themselves a mere 3 points from bottom club Barnet, although they do have a vastly superior goal difference compared with the 3 teams below them in the table. They have a 2-3-5 record at Home Park this season, scoring 13 goals and conceding 17.

The poor run of form I have mentioned has seen Plymouth fail to win any of their last 9 games in all competitions while they have fallen to defeat in 7 of those games. They come into this game off the back of 3 straight defeats in League One, while they have failed to win any of their last 4 home games in all competitions and have lost 2 of their last 3 here in the League.

York City

York City will be aware that a decent run of form can propel them very quickly up the League Two table and a Play Off place is not beyond their reach at the moment. With no more Cup games to distract them, York will be hoping to make good on that and perhaps force their way into the Play Off picture during this busy festive period.

They are 14th in League Two at the start of the weekend, but their 27 point total means they are just 4 points behind Fleetwood Town who occupy the final Play Off place and 8 points behind Cheltenham Town in the final automatic promotion spot. York have been particularly tough on their travels where they are 4-5-1 this season, scoring 16 goals and conceding 12, and no team has lost fewer away games in the League so far.

York had failed to win any of their previous 7 games in all competitions, but they were in League action last week while most others played in the FA Cup and they did record a 2-3 win at Rochdale. That means York are unbeaten in their last 7 away games in all competitions, although they have only won 2 of their last 6 on their travels.

Head to Head

Plymouth are unbeaten in their last 5 home games against York City and they have won 4 of those games.

In fact, York have failed to score in their last 4 visits to Home Park and they have lost their last 3 here.

Prediction

Recent Plymouth games have not been the most productive in front of goal, but they have mostly been good for goals scored and conceded in their home games this season and I like the chance for over 3 goals in this game which looks under-rated at 2.17 offered.

York City themselves have both scored and conceded at least 2 goals in their last 3 away games in all competitions, although they do have to buck a recent trend of not scoring goals here.

Still, I think the over 3 goals shouldn't be as big a price as I have seen and that is what I'll take.

The Pick :

Plymouth 2-1 York City
