English League Two
2012-12-08 - Port Vale vs Chesterfield
A Sports Betting Pick by Lamps
Football : England : League Two
Saturday 8th December - Kickoff 3:00pm
Port Vale
Port Vale won convincingly at Aldershot (1-3) in their last league game to see them maintain their 2nd place with 39 points. The leaders Gillingham are 2 points away and Vale could go top come 5pm on Saturday evening.
Adams has his side playing some decent football at the minute and Port Vale enter this game having won the last 2. It's 6 games since their last league defeat and it's their only defeat in 12 going back to early September.
At home Port Vale are 6 unbeaten winning 3 and drawing 3. The wins have come against Oxford (3-0), Wycombe (4-1) and Bristol Rovers (4-0) as the side has scored plenty in the process.
In the last 5 home games Port Vale have scored 2 goals or more at an average of 3 goals a game. With such firepower it's very difficult to win here despite just 2 clean sheets in 9.
Chesterfield
Chesterfield won 0-1 at Plymouth to move into 13th place with 28 points. The playoff places are just 3 points away so this team will certainly want to kick on over the Xmas period to move right into the playoff mix.
Cook's side have won their last 3 league games to shoot up the table. It's 1 loss in 4 overall so their confidence must be high ahead of this very tricky game at Vale Park.
Away from home it's 1 win in 3 against Plymouth with a draw and loss in the other 2 games. However, in the previous 2 games the visitors did win against Aldershot and Exeter (0-1) so they can certainly cause a shock on their day.
Chesterfield have scored in 4 of their last 5 away games but on only 1 occasion has the scored scored 2 or more over this period. What is impressive is the amount of clean sheets with 4 in the last 5 on their travels.
Betting Verdict
Port Vale are favourites in this clash between 2 good sides. The hosts just don't lose at home (1 loss in 13) but have drawn 2 of the last 3 here.
The visitors are on a 3 game winning streak with 3 wins in the last 5 away. However, it's just 1 win in the last 3 on their travels and this won't be an easy place to visit.
The last 5 at home have gone overs and the 4 of the last 5 have been unders for the visitors making a bet tough to find. I'm going to have a small bet on unders here as I feel this is going to be a really close game between 2 sides that are in decent knick.
A fear is 2-1 either way but given the visitors have only scored 2 or more once in 9 away games, 2 for them seems unlikely. As for the hosts they have come up against a side that has a lot of away clean sheets in them and Vale failed to score at home to Bradford in the football league trophy recently.
At odds against this is the value of the two and if I had a little more courage 1-1 or a score draw would be a decent payout. However, I'm happy with the unders bet here in what looks a very tight game to call.
