A Sports Betting Pick by Auls

Ipswich Town v Millwall
Football: English Championship
Saturday 8 December 2012 - Kick Off 3pm

Ipswich Town

The change was made in the manager office as Paul Jewell was removed and Mick McCarthy was given the job at Ipswich Town and it has seen a mini-revival at the club. This season is now one where they will look to ensure they are still in the Championship next season before perhaps building for a promotion calibre squad.

Ipswich moved up to 20th in the Championship with a 1-2 win at Bolton Wanderers last weekend and they are 5 points clear of Bristol City in the final relegation spot in the Division. The side have a 2-3-5 record at Portman Road this season, scoring 12 goals and conceding 17 in those games.

However, it has to be pointed out that Ipswich have earned both wins at home this season in their last 3 in front of their own fans and they are unbeaten in all of those games since a 0-3 loss to Sheffield Wednesday which cost Jewell his job. Ipswich have lost just 1 of their last 5 games overall and have picked up 10 points from a possible 15 in that run.

Millwall

While Ipswich were considered as a possible Play Off team at the beginning of the season, many tipped Millwall for a season of struggle. However, Kenny Jackett clearly didn't get the memo and he has Millwall in a surprising promotion push after a solid run of form.

The side did fail to beat Charlton Athletic at home last weekend which dropped Millwall to 7th in the Championship, but the Lions have an impressive 33 point haul so far this season and are only out of the Play Off spots on goal difference. Millwall have been impressive away from home where they have a 4-4-2 record, scoring 17 goals and conceding 14 in those games.

Since a 1-2 home loss against Brighton, Millwall are unbeaten in 12 games in a row and had won 4 in a row before the draw against Charlton last time out. They are unbeaten in their last 7 away games, while Millwall have won 3 of their last 4 on their travels.

Head to Head

Millwall will have some good recent memories of playing at Portman Road after beating Ipswich Town 0-3 here last season.

That means Millwall have won 3 in a row against Ipswich and have only lost 2 of their last 5 at Portman Road.

Prediction

Both sides have been in good nick in recent weeks and that should produce a decent game for the fans on Saturday afternoon.

I don't think either side will be wary of playing the other, although the home advantage for Ipswich Town may just give them the edge despite the form Millwall have shown on their travels.

However, I don't really have a feel for which way this will go although I am expecting goals in the contest and will back that instead.

The Pick :

Ipswich Town 2-1 Millwall
