A Sports Betting Pick by Lamps
Football : England : Championship
Saturday 1st December - Kickoff 3:00pm
Millwall
Millwall were excellent in their away win at Wolves midweek to move them up into the playoff places. The South Londoners are in 5th place with 32 points and trail the automatic places by 5 points.
Jackett's side have won 4 straight now and haven't lost a league game since 22nd September some 12 games ago. The team is really confident and despite everyone thinking they would tail off they defy the odds and continue to win.
At home it's 3 straight wins and 4 wins in 5. Wins over Bolton (2-1), Huddersfield (4-0), Derby (2-1) and Leeds (1-0) have been comfortable and they will certainly fancy their chances against an average Athletic.
2 clean sheets in the last 3 here plus 1 away to Wolves midweek make Millwall a really tough side to beat. At the other end it's 6 straight games scoring at least once and it's hard to see Charlton stopping them at the weekend.
Charlton Athletic
Charlton Athletic beat Peterborough 2-0 at home midweek to move them up into 13th place. The 27 points gained is good enough for a 12 point lead over the relegation places and just 5 off the playoff positions.
Powell's side are playing decent stuff at the minute and enter this London derby 5 unbeaten. 4 of the 5 games have ended in Charlton wins and this game with Millwall might not be so clear cut as it first appears.
Away from home it's 6 unbeaten with 4 wins over Ipswich (1-2), Blackpool (0-2), Bristol City (0-2) and Burnley (0-1). The draws have come at Leeds and Wolves both 1-1 so this team has the ability to get points at some of the toughest away grounds in the Championship.
Back to back away clean sheets plus a clean sheet midweek is excellent reading for Powell. His team are tough to score against and with their run of 8 straight games with an away goal they will fancy at least a point on Saturday.
Betting Verdict
Millwall are around evens to win this game and that's too short for me. Both sides are in form and there's a good argument for either.
Millwall have won 4 in the last 5 at home and haven't lost for a long time. The visitors haven't lost in 5 themselves and their away record is excellent going 6 unbeaten!
With both sides in excellent form and defensively quite solid the unders is a good play here. Millwall have been scoring a lot of goals recently at home but they won't get much joy against this Charlton defence.
The visitors have 3 away clean sheets in the last 5 games and enter this one following back to back clean sheets. The hosts also have 2 clean sheets in 2 (1 home/1 away) so unless we get an early goal I expect a tight game to the end. The fear is a 2-1 either way winner but given the stats and the form a solid point for both looks likely.
Good Luck
