Tottenham Hotspur
There is definitely a little less swagger in the Tottenham Hotspur performances at the start of this season and that has seen the pressure build on Andre Villas-Boas who was not a popular choice as manager following Harry Redknapp's sacking. The Champions League is the aim for the side this season, and they are still in with a shout of that, but performances and results need to improve and become more consistent.
The side are 7th in the Premier League and are only 5 points behind Chelsea who occupy the final Champions League place. Spurs have been particularly inconsistent at White Hart Lane where they are 3-2-2 this season, scoring 11 goals and conceding 9.
Spurs beat West Ham United 3-1 here at the weekend and that stopped a run of 3 consecutive League defeats in a row, including a 0-1 loss to Wigan Athletic. In fact, before that win over the Hammers, Tottenham had been beaten in back to back home games in the League.
Sandro is in the squad for this game, but the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Scott Parker, Younes Kaboul and Benoit Assou-Ekotto are all missing.
Liverpool
After a shocking start to the season, it is clear that Brendan Rodgers is beginning to get more positive results out of his Liverpool side as they extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League. However, the team are still drawing too many of their games and that could leave them short when it comes to perhaps fighting for a Champions League place for next season.
Liverpool moved up to 11th in the Premier League and have now picked up 16 points on the season, although that does mean they are closer to the relegation zone than they are to the Champions League. The team have a 1-4-1 record away from home in the League, scoring 9 goals and conceding 9 in those games.
They have now extended their run to 8 unbeaten in the League thanks to a 0-0 draw at Swansea at the weekend, but 4 of their last 5 League games have ended with the points shared. Liverpool have drawn 3 away League games in a row in the League since a 2-5 win at Norwich City.
Andre Wisdom is back in the squad and could replace Stewart Downing. Lucas is back in training for Liverpool, but he is not quite match fit to be involved in this one.
Head to Head
Tottenham Hotspur beat Liverpool 4-0 at home last season thanks to a couple of controversial sending offs for the away side.
That means Spurs have won 5 in a row at home in all competitions against Liverpool, including 4 straight in the Premier League.
Prediction
Tottenham Hotspur fans are not happy with the way the side have been playing this season, but they might just have turned a corner with their win over West Ham United on Sunday.
They haven't been able to get on the front foot as much as they had in the last couple of seasons, but I think there is enough about the home side to trouble Liverpool.
Liverpool have been playing better of late, but they were very fortunate at Chelsea where they were outplayed for large periods of the game and I am not quite convinced about this side.
The home side at odds against looks a decent shout in this one and that is what I'll be backing.
