Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur won a London derby at the weekend beating West Ham United 3-1. The win leaves Spurs in 7th place on 20 points level with arch rivals Arsenal. A win on Wednesday could see Tottenham move up into 5th place ahead of Everton who are coincidently playing the Gunners.
The win against the Hammers is their first in 4 having lost 3 straight games to Wigan, City and Arsenal. The 3 losses have really hurt Spurs who are now 5 points off the top 4.
At White Hart Lane the last 4 reads W-L-L-W with wins over Villa (2-0) and West Ham (3-1). Wigan won (0-1) whilst Chelsea won a shootout (2-4) as defensively the hosts continue to struggle in the clean sheet department.
In 7 home games only toothless Villa have failed to scored at the Lane. With Suarez and Sterling I expect Liverpool to create plenty of chances and Spurs will need 2 or more to win this. Fortunately in 4 of the last 5 home games they have scored 2 or more.
Liverpool
Liverpool drew 0-0 at Swansea on Sunday in a game which they perhaps should have won. The point means Liverpool occupy 11th place with 16 points and the best position they can be after the midweek games is 8th.
Rodgers's side are unbeaten in 8 games going back to September, however they have won just 3 drawing 5. The manager will be happy to remain unbeaten for 8 game weeks but if they want top 4 or even top 6 the draws must be converted to wins.
Away from home it's 5 games unbeaten with 4 draws including 3 in a row at Everton (2-2), Chelsea and Swansea (0-0). The Reds won at Norwich (2-5) before the 3 draws so the form is very good at the minute.
Liverpool had scored in 4 straight games before the blank at Swansea. Still over the last 5 the side is averaging just under 2 goals a time which is excellent. Defensively 1 clean sheet in 7 on their travels is a worry and you can't help but feel the hosts will get chances in this one.
Betting Verdict
Not often I say this but the prices (best selected) of 2.45-3.60-3.10 are pretty spot on and there's not much value here. The hosts are normally excellent at home but the mini losing run in addition to the Liverpool unbeaten runs puts me off a fixed market bet.
Overs is my play in this one. Both sides just don't do home/away split clean sheets and as with most overs bets the 1-1 is the biggest worry.
If memory serves me correctly the last 4/5 games at White Hart Lane have had 3 goals or more and it's hard to see this changing on Wednesday. With Spurs scoring 2 a game here and Liverpool good for at least 1 a 2-1 scoreline looks the most likely.
However, Liverpool with Suarez can cause all sorts of damage on the counter and a shock away win wouldn't surprise me. Everything points to a shootout as 2 better attackers than defenders square off. It's under lights too so we should get a good run for out bet in this one as both press for a winner.
Good Luck
