Wigan Athletic
Wigan Athletic won a shootout against Reading (3-2) at home on Saturday to move them up into 15th place with 14 points. The gap to the drop zone is only 4 points but they can take comfort that even with a loss they can't fall into the bottom 3.
Martinez's side ended a 2 game losing run with Saturday's win but it was their 3rd win in 5 now. Martinez will want more from his side as each year they are involved in a relegation scrap due to a poor first half of the season. Ultimately putting a lot of pressure on the second half of the year.
At the DW it's 2 wins from the last 3 as Wigan Athletic defeated West Ham (2-1) a few weeks ago. In between the 2 wins was a close loss to West Brom (1-2) who to be fair are flying at the minute sitting in the top 4 of the table.
No clean sheets all season at home is a concern and in 7 home games the visitors have scored 2 or more in 6! Going forward only Chelsea on the opening day shut them out as they have averaged just under 2 goals themselves since that 0-2 defeat.
Manchester City
Champions Manchester City drew 0-0 at Chelsea in awful conditions on Sunday to relinquish their lead at the top. City are a point behind United who should win on Wednesday night putting a lot of pressure back on Mancini's side.
Manchester City enter this game at Wigan as the only unbeaten side in the league. Their last 4 games read D-W-W-D but interestingly the draws are away from home as they have struggled to mirror their excellent record at the Etihad.
Away from home its 4 draws and 2 wins with the victories coming at Fulham and West Brom by 1-2 scorelines. The home sides to hold Cit are Liverpool (2-2), Stoke (1-1), West Ham (0-0) and Chelsea (0-0).
2 0-0'S in a row away from home is a concern as this team is often a high scorer. With the Champions League run now over the attention is purely on the league and we could see the "real" Manchester City on Wednesday night.
Betting Verdict
As we all expected Manchester City are odds on favourites to win at Wigan Athletic priced around 1.55. That price is a short for my estimations given City have won just 33% of their away games this season.
I'm taking the visitors to win but via the margin of victory market. Both of the City wins have been by just 1 goal whilst in just 1 of the last 6 wins has there been an away victory by more than 2 goals.
Wigan on the other hand when losing haven't lost by 2 or more going back to March of last season, a run 4 losses up until then. The dutched price is much better than the fixed odds on City and in a game they must win I see them doing so but by a slender margin.
Good Luck
