Match Preview :
This is the battle at the bottom of the standings as Aston Villa takes on Reading and both sides will be eager to get out of the drop zone which they could for at least 24 hours before the other teams play on Wednesday.
Aston Villa managed to pulled themselves out of the bottom three last weekend after they managed a goalless draw with Arsenal, but slipped back again on Sunday after Southampton managed to beat Newcastle united.
One good thing is that Paul Lambert will be happy with his side's defensive display against Arsenal however it has now been two games since they managed to score a goal and worse of all have only managed one win in nine games! They also have lost three of their last four league games played on a Tuesday.
Their opponent Reading have done better in recent games and they currently occupy second from the bottom in the Premiership. To date Reading have only lost 5 times this season. That is as many as Fulham and Tottenham.
However, Reading have only managed one win in 12 Premiership games which has left them second from the bottom of the standings. Last weekend they lost to Wigan 3-2 and that will only made their confidence low going into this match.
But the fact they are playing against another struggling team they know they must get full points from this match.
Team News :
Aston Villa Team News :
Aston Villa captain Ron Vlaar is rated doubtful ahead of this match with a calf injury during the draw with Arsenal and was substituted early in the second half.
If he fails to recover in time then Matt Lowton is likely to partner Ciaran Clark at the heart of the defence. Eric Lichaj will be recalled into the right back position.
Reading Team News :
Pavel Pogrebnyak and Garath McCleary is likely to come back into the side after the defeat against Wigan. McDermott could keep faith with those who started last weekend as Reading have no fresh injury or suspension concerns to contend with ahead of this tie.
But the likes of Jimmy Kebe (groin), Alex McCarthy (shoulder), Danny Guthrie (hip) and Jem Karacan (knee) all remain out on long term injuries.
