Lazio (6th W7 D2 L4)
Lazio recorded their second consecutive goalless draw after holding Juventus in Turin, but this time the one point picked up against Tottenham was enough for them to progress to the knockout stages of the Europa League.
The Biancocelesti will need a victory here not to lose contact with the top 4, three points will also mean that they’ll jump back to the fifth position ahead of rivals AS Roma.
Lazio holds a decent 4-1-1 home record this season, but they’ve failed to beat Udinese here last season. Actually, Udinese haven’t lost their last 3 games against Lazio since a 3-2 loss at the Olimpico in 2010.
Midfielder Hernanes sit out Lazio’s Europa League game against Tottenham, but it seems like he’ll be able to play today. I cannot say the same about Abdouley Konko, Cristian Brocchi and Andre Dias who are all ruled out for this clash.
Udinese (12th W3 D7 L3)
Udinese’s European campaign ended prematurely after their 2-0 loss in Russia to Anzhi Makhachkala, but the bright side is that they can now concentrate on Serie A where they have a lot catching up to do.
Francesco Guidolin’s side is clearly not as competitive as it was two years ago, selling a lot of players and the recent injury crisis couldn’t allow Udinese to fight with success on two fronts.
Udinese have not won any of their last four games in Serie A since a 3-2 victory at the Olimpico against AS Roma, all four of those matches ending in draws. As a result, The Friuli dropped to the 12th position on the table.
Francesco Guidolin cannot count on six of his regulars, as Thomas Heurteaux, Mehdi Benatia, Giampiero Pinzi, Andrea Lazzari, Luis Muriel and Dusan Basta are all sidelined.
The Betting Verdict
As I mentioned before, Udinese picked up three points on their last visit to Rome against the other team from the capital (3-2), but Lazio’s defense should not be that easy to break.
Udinese will rely on Di Natale and Maicosuel in front, the veteran striker has already scored 8 goals this season and I can’t imagine how Udinese would look without him or where they’d be on the table.
I’m not sure if the price for the home win is right or not, but Lazio looks more likely to win this, they have the home advantage and look very solid starting from midfield with Hernanes back available and Klose in front.
These two have been involved in high scoring affairs lately, Udinese is excellent on counter attacks which helped them to score 10 times in seven away games, whilst Lazio has an average of 2 goals per home match. There's also the fact that five of their last six head to head clashes at Olimpico ended with at least four goals scored.
