PREVIEW
I simply do not understand why Liverpool are being respected so much as to price Chelsea at over even money. It's too generous and I think the home side should be taken to notch a win over the shaky visitors.
I think maybe the odds are being dictated by the fact Liverpool have lost just 2 of the last 11 meetings against Chelsea, winning the last 4 straight. When visiting the Bridge, the last 5 meetings have seen Liverpool win 3 and lost just 1.
Add to that the fact Chelsea have not allowed opponents to score against them in each of their last 5 league games, including trailing in each of the last 2 home games, and it might make sense to think Liverpool are in with a sniff here.
But here's the thing. Liverpool are a 1 man team. Stop Suarez and you've stopped the Reds. Suarez has had a hand in 82% of his sides goals this season, scoring 7 himself. They are way too reliant on him to get goals, while of course you can't put too much faith in Gerrard to keep popping up with the big winning goal each time.
Much of the talk will be about Torres doing bugger all since moving to Chelsea, but the side has enough talent that is firing to win this even without him. Chelsea just scored 3 against a very tough Shakhtar Donetsk side and netted 7 goals against Manchester United over 2 games.
Even at Spurs, Chelsea roared back from a 2-1 deficit to win 4-2. Arsenal were handed their first loss by this side despite equalising. I rate all those sides better than Liverpool.
The Reds left a lot of players back home and lost in Russia on Thursday. Including that, they are now on a 4 game winless streak. It's nuts to suggest they will end that run here at the Bridge, where Chelsea have shown themselves to be a constant threat, losing just once, their only loss of the season.
BETTING VERDICT
Chelsea have but 1 loss and 7 wins in the league. They have motivation to bounce back here with a win, because the last 2 matches have seen them lose to United and then draw at Swansea, and any slip ups here would see them fall further behind United, while the rest of the chasing pack would begin to catch them up.
I could faff around with the goals market, because it seems both defences are likely to concede, but I prefer to take Chelsea to win and not have to worry about how they do it.
