Last week was the best one Chiajna had this season, they’ve eliminated Steaua Bucuresti from the Romanian Cup after a penalty shootout and held Petrolul Ploiesti to a goalless draw over the last weekend.
Concordia is now in the top half of the table above teams like Rapid Bucuresti or Otelul Galati and just two points behind CFR Cluj and Dinamo Bucuresti.
Former Steaua coach Ilie Stan created a well organized side that puts a lot of effort during a game to compensate the lack of their technical ability.
The team from Chiajna only lost once when playing at home, a surprising 2-0 defeat to Univeristatea Cluj. Concordia have been struggling to score goals lately, they’ve failed to score in 4 of their last 5 home games, but only lost one of them the rest ending in goalless draws.
CFR Cluj (6th W6 D4 L4)
CFR Cluj just wasted an excellent chance to consolidate their second position in the UCL group H losing their home game to Galatasaray (1-3). CFR still has some chances to progress, but it’s hard to imagine they’ll avoid the last place if they continue playing like they did against the Turkish side.
The Romanian champions will now try to bounce back with a victory over Concordia, the last time they’ve travelled to Chiajna they’ve secured an impressive 4-0 victory, so that should give them confidence.
New coach Paolo Sergio tried a 4-5-1 system against Galatasaray with three central midfielders, but it turned out to be a wrong decision, they were outplayed in the midfield and couldn’t get enough men in front to create some damage in the Turkish defense.
Matias Aguerregaray will take his place in the starting line-up after missing out the midweek match due to suspension, which means that either Luis Alberto or Godemeche will have to sit on the bench.
The Betting Verdict
Concordia is a defensive minded team, so CFR might struggle to break their defense, but I can’t see the team from Chiajna holding on for the entire 90 minutes.
The good news for the champions is that Concordia finds it hard to create chances, scoring goals has been quite an issue for Ilie Stan’s side.
As I mentioned before CFR won 4-0 here last season, they are obviously the better side and the odds are appealing as well, the only question is whether they will recover physically or not until the game and if coach Sergio Brito will manage to motivate them after the painful defeat to Galatasaray.
