Stoke City
Stoke gave United a good game last weekend but eventually we undone in a 4-2 defeat. The Potters are now in 13th place with 8 points and have a healthy 4 point cushion from the drop zone.
Pulis's side have just 1 win all season and going back into last season it's 1 win from 14! Fortunately the Potters are tough to beat drawing a lot of games to keep the points ticking over but eventually the pressure will be on to win and not draw.
At the Britannia Stadium Stoke are unbeaten in 10 but have won just once in 6 games. The 5 draws against Everton, Arsenal and City were in 1-1 draws whilst Bolton drew 2-2 here and the Gunners also played out a scoreless 0-0.
5 of the last 6 home games have ended under 2.50 goals with 2 clean sheets in the last 3 at home. Pulis sets his side up very well defensively and it's going to take a big performance from the visitors to beat them.
Sunderland
The Mackems took a point at home to Newcastle despite having 11 v 10 for long spells. The draw leaves O'Neil's side in 14th also on 8 points but Sunderland have played a game less than their opponents.
Sunderland have lost just once in 7 games at Champions City (3-0) but have only won once in the same period at home to Wigan (1-0). Like the hosts they draw too many and it's time to kick on and claiming those vital 3 points.
Before their loss at City, the side was unbeaten in 3 drawing with Arsenal (0-0), Swansea (2-2) and West Ham (1-1). Like the hosts they generally keep it tight and not many will walk away from the Emirates with a point this season.
It's 11 games since the last Sunderland win, ironically at Stoke in a 0-1 victory. We could see something similar on Saturday but either way it looks a very close game to call.
Betting Verdict
The bookies have Stoke as around even money favourites and that's just wrong in my eyes. 1 win in 6 at home is very poor whislt the visitors have lost just once at City this season, yet they are a huge 4.61 to win at Pinnaclesports.
The value is with the away side but given they haven't won an away game since last February I will back the draw. I hate backing the draw but feel this is best angle to approach the game.
Between the 2 sides there has been 10 draws in their 15 played of which 2 out of 3 have come in Stoke home games and 3 out of 4 Sunderland away games.
The last 3 games at Stoke have been settled by just 1 goal between these 2 sides so they seem to matchup well against each other. I predict a score draw when it's all said and done with 1-1 the most likely.
Good Luck
