Wigan
Wigan were unlucky to lose at Swansea last time out (2-1) but the defeats leaves them in 16th place and just a point above the drop zone. Thankfully for Martinez's side they are home this weekend to a promoted side and 3 points is well within their grasps.
The loss in Wales extends the winless run to 6 games now and all of a sudden there is a dejas vous about Wigan. Most seasons they struggle in the first half of the year but save themselves post Xmas. However, obviously Martinez will be doing his all to win this game but a point wouldn't be the worst result.
At the DW the home form isn't great either with 2 draws and 2 losses in the last 4. Chelsea (0-2) and Fulham (1-2) have recorded the victories whilst Stoke (2-2) and Everton (2-2) were involved in entertaining draws.
After Chelsea shut them out on opening day the host have scored 5 in 3 games which is good. The defence on the other hand is all over the place giving up exactly 2 in all 4 home games this season.
West Ham
West Ham continue to move up the table after their win against the Saints. Big Sam's side are in 7th place with 14 points and the deficit to the European places is just a few points.
Allardyce's side have lost just 1 of their last 6 games at home to Arsenal (1-3). The side is playing decent football at the minute and clearly isn't easy to defeat.
Away from Upton Park the Hammers are unbeaten in 2 having drawn at Norwich (0-0) and then beating QPR (1-2). Swansea completely outplayed them in their first away game of the season (3-0) but that game was riddled with defensive errors.
The Hammers were shut out in their first 2 away games but the 2 at QPR will certainly give them confidence. Since then they are scoring freely and look a goal threat in all their games. Defensively 4 against in 3 games is a tad high given they kept a clean sheet at Norwich.
Betting Verdict
Of the 2 sides Wigan perhaps are the value bet at 2.40 playing in front of their home homes. However, the unbeaten run of West Ham is impressive and Wigan is hardly the most intimidating place to play at.
I wouldn't put anyone off West Ham +0.5 on the Asian line as you then get the draw on your side but 1.74 is a little shorter than I would prefer to take them. Either way I'd rather take my chances on goals.
Over 2.5 goals has hit in the last 3 Wigan home games and in the time that it didn't 2 goals were scored. The visitors have had overs in 2 of their 3 away games so to get a price of 1.91 when most bookies are cira 1.80 is more than reasonable.
West Ham have scored 7 goals in their last 3 overall but at the same time conceded in all 3 at an average of 1.50 a game. The hosts have scored 5 in the last 3 at home but conceded 6. This looks like being a close game and so long as we have a first half goal I see 3 goals or more.
Good Luck
