Football – England – League One
Saturday 27th October 2012 – Kickoff: 1500hrs
Fourth placed Crawley Town could face a tough task against a resurgent Oldham Athletic at their Broadfield Stadium on Saturday afternoon, but the hosts will be looking to post another home win to keep them in the hunt for a play-off position.
Crawley Town
The Red Devils have lost just once in their last six League One matches which was a 1-2 defeat at Brentford, but the London outfit are absolutely flying at the moment so all can be forgiven for the Sussex outfit. However, they’ll be looking to bounce back quickly with a win on Saturday against Oldham.
Crawley Town’s home record stands at 5-0-2 14/11, and they’ve won their last three on the trot at home against Bournemouth 3-1, Bury 3-2 and MK Dons 2-0 which proves they are no push-overs and should remain in the frame for at least a play-off position in the closing stages of the season.
Nicky Adams (5 goals, 2 assists) is their leading scorer, but it’s very much a team effort with former Millwall striker Gary Alexander (4 goals, 1 assist), Hope Akpan (3 goals, 2 assists), Mike Jones (3 assists) and Nick Ajose (2 goals, 2 assists) also providing valuable support. Billy Clarke also scored 2 goals in their midweek win over MK Dons.
Oldham Athletic
Visitors Oldham Athletic have shown signs of significant improvement in recent weeks with wins over Crewe 2-0, Preston North End 3-1 and Leyton Orient 2-0, but they still remain inconsistent and there are still enough doubts over their away form to suggest a home win here today.
Away wins at Portsmouth and Crewe have been off-set by defeats at Brentford and Carlisle United and a trip to a strong Crawley outfit may be too much for them today. The Latics’ away record stands at a so-so 2-1-3 5/7 with leading scorers being ex-Premiership players Matt Derbyshire and Jose Baxter (both with 4 goals each) and are, quite frankly, wasting their time in this division and should be playing at least one level higher.
Croft, Grounds and Montano have all contributed with 2 assists each, and while Oldham have improved considerably following their nightmare start to the season (just one win in their first eight league matches), I feel this match will be too much for them right now and will probably need to wait until next week’s match against Bury for further points.
The Betting Verdict :
I feel this could be a 2-1 win for the hosts here.
The Pick :
Crawley Town 2-1 Oldham Athletic
