Ninth placed Brentford will be hoping to break into the play-off positions with a win against visiting rock-bottom club Hartlepool United when the two teams meet on Saturday afternoon at Griffin Park.
Brentford
Brentford recorded their fifth home win of the season when they beat Coventry City 2-1 in midweek and there appears to be little reason why they can’t make it six wins against a poor Hartlepool side.
The Bees have already accounted for Crewe Alexandra 5-1, Colchester United & Oldham Athletic 1-0 and Crawley Town & Coventry City 2-1, along with a 0-0 draw against Shrewsbury Town. Their single defeat so far was against Yeovil Town back in August but since then The Bees have put together a strong run at home.
Brentford’s home record then stands at 5-1-1 12/6 with leading scorer Clayton Donaldson (6 goals, 2 assists) leading the way. Harry Forrester (4 goals, 2 assists) bagged a brace against the Sky Blues while Adam Forshaw has chipped in with 3 assists.
Hartlepool United
Struggling Hartlepool make the trip south on the back of yet another defeat in midweek this time at Bury 1-2. The Pools have now suffered three straight defeats (0-1 at Leyton Orient, 0-1 V Crawley Town and the loss at Bury) while it’s now eleven matches without a win and they’ve taken just three points from a possible 33 on offer!
Their away record stands at a woeful 0-1-6 4/16, and along with Colchester and Scnthorpe, are the lowest away goalscorers in the division. In addition, only AFC Bournemouth (17 goals conceded) have leaked more goals on the road than the north-east club and I fear more goals are on their way on Saturday.
To make matters worse, following the defeat at Bury, manager Neale Cooper resigned and Hartlepool will travel without a manager as they attempt to avoid a fourth successive defeat. Also, in their last ten away matches Hartlepool have failed to keep a clean sheet.
The Betting Verdict :
With Brentford’s strong run at home and six games without defeat at Griffin Park, I’ll not only take Brentford to win but to win by more than a one goal margin against a leaky Pool defence; could be a 2-0 or 3-0 win for the hosts here.
The Pick :
Brentford 2-0 Hartlepool United
