Following their win on Tuesday Bury are finally off the bottom of the table. It;s only up one into 23rd but at it's a start for Blackwell's side. A win on Saturday will see them climb up into a potential 21st place and then just 1 off safety.
The win against Hartlepool (2-1) is their first of the season ending a run of 13 without a win. The side has taken at least a point in 2 of their last 3 now and hopefully they can build on this.
At Gigg Lane Bury drew with Carlisle (1-1) before beating Hartlepool. This ended their 4 game losing streak to Notts County (0-2), Preston (1-2), MK Dons (1-4) and Swindon (0-1).
Blackwell's team have scored in 4 of their last 5 home games but only 2 or more once. At the other end they have conceded in 6 straight and just can't keep sides out.
Walsall
The visitors have lost another game and now they find themselves in 15th place with 18 points. Given the tight nature of this division a win could send them up to 8th so their league position is a little misleading.
Smith's side have lost 4 of the last 5 and haven't won a league game since 29th September. Fortunately their opponents are in as bad form and they will target a win in this game.
Away from home they have just 1 win from 4 at Bournemouth (1-2). Unfortunately Walsall have suffered 3 defeats at Stevenage (3-1), Shrewsbury (1-0) and Sheffield (1-0).
Losing 1-0 twice is a little unlucky, the side is fighting hard but just can't pick up any points. In the last 5 away games they haven't kept a clean sheet giving up on average just under 1.50 goals a time.
Betting Verdict
The hosts are slender favourites after breaking their duck midweek. A 2 game unbeaten run will install huge confidence at Bury given their awful form before hand. The visitors are struggling to win and are in freefall losing the last 2 away games and 4 of 5 overall.
When both teams are struggling I prefer goals as usually the defences are the most suspect areas. Bury have had both sides scoring in the last 5 at home and they struggle to keep anyone out at the moment.
The visitors have struggled in recent away games to score. However, Sheffield United are probably the best side in the league and the Shrewsbury game we can allow as an off day.
Before that game with Shrewsbury they scored 6 in 4 games away from home at an average of 1.50 a game. The Bury defence seems ideal for them to get going again and as a result I see predict a tight 1-1 draw as neither is good enough to take all 3 points.
