English League Two
2012-10-27 - Accrington Stanley vs Bristol Rovers
A Sports Betting Pick by Lamps
Football : England : League Two
Saturday 27th October - Kickoff 3:00pm
Accrington
The midweek loss at home to York leaves Stanley down in 16th place on 17 points. Despite being 6 places above the drop zone their gap to the drop zone is only 6 points. If a few results go against them we would see Accrington right down at the bottom.
Cook's side are now on a 4 game losing run. Rochdale (2-3), Torquay (3-1), Oxford (5-0) and York (0-1) have recorded wins over this team with 2 at home and 2 away.
At the Fraser Eagle Stadium they have just 1 win in 3 against struggling Aldershot (1-0). As mentioned above Rochdale and York have since taken all the points here and Cook will want his side to bounce back before the run gets out of hand.
The side has just 1 clean sheet in their last 5 at home conceding on average over 1.50 goals a game. More often than not this team needs to score at least 2 goals to win games. Their home record when scoring 2 or more reads 4-0-1 with the only loss recently to Rochdale.
Bristol Rovers
Bristol sit in 20th place with 14 points after their loss at Wimbledon. A win over their opponents on Saturday could see them rise above Accrington and as high as 15th in the table.
Despite their low league position Rovers were on a 3 game unbeaten run winning 2 before their loss at Wimbledon. The wins over Northampton (3-1) and Torquay (3-2) were both at home and as we saw on Tuesday they struggle on the road.
McGhee's side have just 1 away win going back to last February. In 6 away games this season the only win came at Exeter (1-2) but they have only lost twice in this run.
In 5 of the last 6 away games both sides have scored. Rovers have scored more than 1 goal in 12 games but they did win that game.
Betting Verdict
The bookies price up the hosts as favourites but their best price is a juicy 2.40. Interestingly it's the visitors who have the better form losing 1 of 4 and the hosts are struggling losing 4 straight.
I prefer to back both to score here rather than a side. The hosts are the better team but their form is very cold at the moment even at home.
The visitors have an awful record on the road winning once in 8 months. Defensively they have 1 clean sheet in 5 and that's not good enough. Accrington are averaging a goal a game at home but defensively they are poor conceding 4 in their last 2 games. The head to head is encouraging as well as last year's games ended 5-1 and 2-1 with neither keeping a clean sheet.
I don't trust either side to get a winner and backing draws isn't for me. Therefore a goal a piece is my play here.
Good Luck
The Pick :
Accrington 1-1 Bristol
