Match Preview :
Liverpool welcome Stoke City to Anfield on Super Sunday and after collecting just five points in six games it is their worst start in the Premier League ever as they aim to get back to winning ways.
Liverpool's poor home form continues when in midweek with a second team out they lost 3-2 in the Europa League and despite bringing on Luis Suarez could not saved the situation in what has become Brendan Rodgers gamble which backfired as that was their third straight home defeat!
The Reds did thrash Norwich City 5-2 in their last Premiership game and will be hoping that run continues when they welcome Stoke for this clash.
Manager Brendan Rodgers was very critical of his players after the midweek defeat, describing them as making 'lazy' errors and will be sure to put out his strongest side available against Stoke who ave never won away in the top flight against Liverpool in a record 49 attempts.
It has to be said that the win over Norwich was Liverpool's first league win this season and so they will be looking to build on that win knowing that they cannot slip up any more. They will be confident of facing the Potters as they have never lost to them in their previous 49 clashes.
However, Rodgers will be all well aware that Stoke was the team that cost Kenny Dalglish his job after they were held to a goalless draw at Anfield.
Stoke boss Tony Pulis will therefore be going out to try and break his club's hoodoo in Liverpool and they could hope that the Reds are suffering their midweek hangover and shaken after their midweek defeat to Udinese in the Europa League.
Ironically last weekend's win over Swansea City was also Stoke's first win this season as they had managed four draws and a defeat prior to that. So Pulis will be going for back to back wins at the expense of Liverpool and he will hope that former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch can strike against his former team here. There is also Michael Owen who would be eager to show his former team that he still has it in him.
Liverpool has one of the worst home records failing to win in their last 3 home games for a team known as the big four! Get on them to register their first home win here and to do it in style!
Team News :
Liverpool Team News :
Joe Cole (hamstring) and Jose Enrique (knee) could return to the side after recovering from their respective injuries. Midfielder Cole has been back in training and scored for Liverpool's Under 21s, while Rodgers has said Enrique will be checked before kickoff.
Meanwhile, Jonjo Shelvey will serve the second match of his three-game domestic ban following his red card against Manchester United.
Stoke City Team News :
Glenn Whelan who was taken out against Swansea in what looked like a hamstring injury could still feature against Liverpool.
Charlie Adam hurt his shoulder last weekend but has been training and should be available against his former club, while Michael Owen will also hope to feature against the club he made his name with.
However for defender Andy Wilkinson, he will miss this match as he serves the third match of a three-game suspension.
