Fulham are not the best travelling side, but strangely they are in with a chance of winning here. You see, over their last 11 meetings, they have not once lost against Wigan.
Wigan have lost 5 and drawn 6 of their last bunch of meetings with Fulham, and they are coming into this match off a thrashing at Old Trafford. Manchester United ran out 4-0 winners after what must have been an interesting HT talk by Sir Alex Ferguson. To their credit, Wigan had been decent up until then.
Still, Wigan have scored just 4 goals here, while conceding double that over 4 games, leaving them 14th in the table. The only win came away, at Southampton, but then there is a side that pours forward in a way that always leaves the opposition with enough chances to score. Wigan, like every other team, took their chances.
Hugo Rodallega will be making his return to the club he scored 24 goals for, many times rescuing them from relegation. There is also Berbatov, who had a dream debut last time out, scoring a brace early to help his new side Fulham to a 3-0 win over visiting West Bromwich Albion.
Now here's the problem. While Fulham have won 5-0 against Norwich and 3-0 against West Brom, those were both at home. Away, they did well but lost 3-2 against Manchester United, but failed to score at Sheffield Wednesday in the Cup and lost, while West Ham beat them 3-0 in East London. Can Fulham actually turn things around and have a good away game?
Under Martin Jol Fulham have scored just 14 goals in 21 Premier League away games, not a good return. However, this year they seem to be creating enough chances, which is what you need to keep doing to finally start getting them goals.
Fulham have had 34 shorts on target, more than any other team in the league, and that is also 71% of all their shots, making them accurate too. Wigan will need to be very very careful here because Fulham, for once, look like they could spring something special.
BETTING VERDICT
Stats show Fulham have not conceded a goal in the 2nd half. So if they can hang on early in the game, they may well have the chance to win it.
It's a long shot but I'm going to have to jump at the massive price offered by Pinnacle on the Fulham win. Why the hell not, eh?
