Forget that 3-0 loss down at Fulham. West Bromwich Albion, at home, are a different kettle of fish. The Baggies have not lost any of their last 8 home games in the Premier League, going back to last season, winning 7. How about goals? Not a single one conceded in 9 home games now. And yet we get 1.84 on them against a side that has only just been promoted from the Championship.
Reading aren't finding life easy back in the big pond. They have failed to win any of their 3 league games so far losing 4-2 at Chelsea and 3-1 at home to Tottenham, a marked a decline from their opening 1-1 draw against Stoke City. This is a side that is finding it hard to keep clean sheets against the Premier Leagues ruthless offences.
West Brom have played Tottenham too, away at White Hart Lane, where they held Spurs to a 1-1 draw, much better than Reading fared. But going back to their home form you see an impressive 3-0 lashing of Liverpool, and a 2-0 win over Everton, who we can all agree are a bit tasty. Those are not easy wins to get. To get them without conceding is bloody impressive.
How Reading will score against this stingy bunch is beyond me. They are managing very shots per game, and are hence down at 19th, just above Southampton, with 1 point from 3 games, managing a meagre 4 goals in 3 games.
I have a bet in mind, fairly obvious really, considering what I've written, but looking at the stats I feel it is worth mentioning that the ref for the day is one Michael Oliver, who seems to be in the habit of giving penalties to the home team, something he has done in 2 of the 3 games he has taken charge of this season.
Keep that in mind, as any mistakes by a desperate Reading will result in a penalty being given to West Brom.
BETTING VERDICT
I like West Brom to win this, and I feel the 1.84 being offered is decent enough to take.
I will take the risk though and go with a penalty being given at the match, priced at 3.00 by PaddyPower!
