West Brom
Clarke's Albion remain in 6th despite their loss last weekend. It's been an encouraging start to the season so far for the new manager and with newly promoted Reading in town. Albion will be looking to return to winning ways on Saturday.
Both wins this season have come at the Hawthorns against Liverpool (3-0) and Everton (2-0). To beat both Merseyside clubs so convincingly and both to nil back to back is very impressive and they correctly go into this game as favourites.
The recent defeat at Fulham was the first time in 5 that Albion have failed to score a goal but they were reduced to 10 men early in teh first half.
At the Hawthorns Albion have 6 wins in 9 including wins over Chelsea, Sunderland, Liverpool and Everton here so they won't fear Reading. The side has scored at least 2 goals in their last 3 home games against the 2 Merseyside clubs and Arsenal. There is a huge goal threat with Albion and I fancy them to keep that run going.
Reading
Championship Champions Reading have just 1 point from their 3 Premiership games and occupy a relegation place in 19th. Having played a game less than most they may be in a false position but as they say you would rather the points on the board than games in hand.
Reading drew with Stoke (1-1) on opening day but are winless since. A tough game at Chelsea ended (4-2) to the hosts and last time around Tottenham were just too good for them in a (1-3) defeat.
Albion are not in the same class as the last 2 but their 2 wins from 2 at home is impressive. Reading's away form in the Championship was very good but as they are finding out in this league it's very difficult to take something from road games.
The good news for Reading is that they have scored in every game this season and having scored 2 at the Bridge they will be confident of at least 1 at the Hawthorns.
Betting Verdict
Albion go off around 4/5 favourites which seems about right. Reading can't be trusted on the road until they get a win for me and I can't put people off the hosts.
My bet however is both teams to score at a very nice price. Reading have a huge goal threat as McDermott insists his club plays the right way.
Albion are good for goals as we discussed above and so long as they keep 11 on the field I see them getting 2 here. I was looking at overs but given the small variance in price I'll take this safer option.
In 8 of the last 10 West Brom home games against newly promoted/relegation candidate both sides have scored. Both sides are superior going forward than in defence and if this goes overs it needs both to score in my opinion. The bonus here is we have 1-1 on side and that adds extra value to the punt.
Good Luck
