English Non-League
2012-09-21 - Grimsby Town vs Luton Town
A Sports Betting Pick by ArmchairPunter
Football – England – Blue Square Premier
Friday 21st September 2012 – Kickoff: 1945hrs
I make another trip into the non-league world and it’s an interesting clash between hosts Grimsby Town and automatic promotion favourites Luton Town at Blundell Park on Friday night.
Grimsby Town
Looking at Grimsby first and they’ve started pretty well in this campaign having lost just one match so far overall (and are unbeaten away from home still).
Grimsby currently possess a 2-1-1 6/3 home record with good wins over two teams that are likely to figure in the latter stages play-offs, Mansfield Town 4-1 and Forest Green Rovers 1-0 – this was following a disastrous start losing 1-2 to Stockport County and then could only muster a draw against newly promoted Nuneaton Town from the Blue Square South.
The Mariners have done quite well so far but are perhaps hindered by the loss of forward Liam Hearn due to injury, and this may have blunted their scoring abilities a little. Midfielder Nathan Pond along with forwards Gregory Pearson and Anthony Elding have all scored 2 goals apiece while defender Aswad Thomas and winger Frankie Artus have contributed with 2 assists each so far.
Luton Town
Visitors Luton Town possess the best away record in the Blue Square Premier so far (albeit it’s still early days) with a 3-0-1 7/5 form going into this match. However, their three match winning sequence on the road was brought back down to earth with a crash in their last road trip at Alfreton Town with The Hatters losing 0-3.
A battling 0-0 draw at home to Wrexham will perhaps have given them a bit of confidence going into this match, steadying the ship and I reckon they’re good for at least a point at Grimsby.
Luton’s leading scorer is forward Stuart Fleetwood (7 goals, 2 assists) as he continues on his merry free-scoring way at this level on the back of 12 goals, 7 assists last season, and he’s well supported by dangerous attacking players Andre Gray (2 goals, 3 assists), Scott Rendell (2 goals, 3 assists) and of course prolific striker Jon Shaw who has notched just once so far but must surely get on the scoresheet again soon.
The Betting Verdict :
Last time these two met at Blundell Park last October, Luton Town edged it 1-0 thanks to a Tommy Wright goal and I believe they have enough firepower and attacking resource to get at least a point here, if not nick it again.
My selection returns your stake if it’s a draw but the odds tempt me for Luton to take the round ball with a view to winning; perhaps another 1-0 win for Luton in a tight match.
The Pick :
Grimsby Town 0-1 Luton Town
