Bayern Munchen will be hoping to go all the way this season after being stopped by Chelsea in the final last season in their attempt to win their fifth UCL/European Cup trophy.
The Bavarians have an impressive home record in both Bundesliga and Europe, they’ve recorded seven straight wins in last year’s UCL, including the play-offs, and have won 14 of their last 15 European home games.
Bayern also holds an excellent home record against Spanish opposition (13-5-1), they’ve only been defeated by Deportivo La Coruna in 2002/03. Bayern overcame two Spanish sides on their way to the final last season, beating twice Villareal in the group stage and eliminating Real Madrid on penalties.
Javi Martínez is ready to play, while Franck Ribéry and Arjen Robben are back in training after shaking off muscle problems that ruled them out on Saturday.
Lukas Raeder (knee), Mario Gomez (ankle), Diego Contento and David Alaba (both foot) have all been ruled out.
Valencia
The times when Valencia were playing UCL finals against Bayern Munchen and Real Madrid are long gone, now they would be happy to progress to the knockout stages of the competition.
Last season they crashed out form a group with Chelsea, Leverkusen and Genk, only picking up one point on their away games, from a goalless draw against Genk in the opening game.
Valencia recorded five wins and ten defeats in 25 games against German opposition. On German soil they’ve only won once, a 1-0 group stage success against Shalke 04.
Valencia has some problems in the midfield area, as Fernando Gago joined Albelda, Canales and Banega on the sidelines.
The Betting Verdict
Even though Mario Gomez will miss this game, Bayern still has a lot of quality in front, his replacement Mario Mandzukic has found the net in all five of Bayern’s competitive games so far.
Newcomer Javi Martinez should partner up in midfield with Bastain Schweinsteiger, which should allow the Bavarians to dominate possession against a Valencia side that has serious issues in that area.
Bayern looks like a safe bet here, but Valencia should be good enough to get on the scoresheet, Soldado can always make a lot of damage if he’s given the chance.
