CFR Cluj have impressed already, knocking out FC Basel in qualification to earn their place in the Champions League competition proper. That's a massive scalp, especially when you consider the quality at the Swiss side, that came and tormented Manchester United last year, along with a win over Bayern Munich too.

Braga are the favourites. Stronger side, at home in Portugal, makes sense. But, there is a bit of familiarity here for Cluj, who have several players who are well acquainted with the Portuguese side. Looking at the defence, I see all but one of them are Portuguese! The goalkeeper, Mario Felgueiras, used to play at Braga, and he has several countrymen playing in defence with him, such as Cado and Pinto.

Braga only just scraped it through, beating Udinese on penalties to progress. They're heavy favourites though against the Romanian champions, who have not won a group match in 4 years, with their only win coming away at Roma, a long time ago. I still don't think we should bother with the low prices on the home side.

It's the Cluj offence that intrigues me here. Senegalese striker Modou Sougou has 3 goals in 4 games already, including that brace against Basel. Then there is Panetilis Kapetanos, a Greek player who is the clubs top scorer. Between them, they may have a say in this match, and that is all I need to settle on a bet here. After all, a side that can knock out Basel should be able to at least grab a goal here?

BETTING VERDICT

CFR Cluj have not won in the CL in forever. They will badly want a scalp, or at least a morale boosting draw, which is not completely out of the question, provided Braga mess up a bit.

However, there are a few dangerous players here who can score, and of course the team has enough inside knowledge of Braga to have a plan where they can at the very least get on the scoresheet.
