17th place Portsmouth are struggling to balance their off the field problems with their on field problems. Appleton has seen virtually a whole new team arrive in the last few weeks and getting them all to gel is obviously a problem.
In 6 games Pompey have just the 1 win with 3 defeats in the last 4. I wouldn't say the wheels have come off but they are only a point above the relegation zone.
In 3 home games the side are winless with 2 defeats thanks to Oldham (0-1) and Walsall (1-2). A worry is that the side hasn't scored more than 1 in any home game and every away opponent has scored at Fratton Park
Swindon
Swindon have 3 points more than Portsmouth and sit 5 places above them in the table. Di Canio's side have struggled in recent weeks after falling out with his keeper. Since that incident Town haven't won a game and you wonder if the Italian has lost the dressing room.
Town started the year excellently with 2 wins from their first 3 but have since failed to win a game. Preston and Orient have beaten them and Carlisle held them last time out.
Town haven't won an away game this season having drawn at Hartlepool (0-0) and Carlisle (2-2) whilst Preston thoroughly outplayed them 4-1.
Di Canio's side have just 2 wins in 10 stretching back into last season and up against a side that hasn't won at home could be a good time to improve this poor run.
Betting Verdict
Swindon go off as favourites here and with the hosts winless at home maybe we will see Di Canio's side kick start their season. Unfortunately Swindon are not in great form themselves and I'm not overly keen to back them.
I prefer to back goals in this one as I don't trust either side defensively. Portsmouth at home are clueless defensively but should be good for a goal themselves. Swindon have goals in them and their last 2 away games have sailed over 2.50 goals and this is where I'll be betting on Tuesday night.
Picking a winner is tough here but we should see one. A fear is 1-1 but at the odds on offer I will roll the dice and expect to see a third goal in the game.
