Milan after their last win against Bologna have managed to overcome their confidence problem but will now welcome an Atalanta side eager to get off with a win when they clash at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
It has to be said that Milan's new signing Pazzini scored a hat-trick in Emilia two weeks ago to secure Milan's first win this season. Substitute appearances from fellow new boys Nigel De Jong and M'Baye Niang also brought confidence to the team. Coach Massimiliano Allegri will however still want to address their weakness in midfield going into this match.
Meanwhile, Kevin Prince Boateng is expected to return from a hand injury, while midfield playmaker Riccardo Montolivo is out until at least next week. De Jong will fill in for the Italian international, as Allegri intends to keep with his favoured 4-3-1-2 formation. But Milan still have a lengthy injury list with the likes of Ignazio Abate, Robinho, Alexandre Pato, Rodney Strasser, Didac Vila and Sulley Muntari all out of action.
Atalanta after starting out with a defeat to Lazio and a thrilling stalemate way to Cagliari are still seeking to register their first win. Goalkeeper Andrea Consigli saved two penalties and was subsequently stretchered off in an incredible performance that almost singlehandedly earned Atalanta a single point. Atalanta are still having to come to terms with a 1 point deduction for their part in the match-fixing scandal.
The good news is for this match Consigli is back between the posts for the visitors in a largely unchanged starting line-up for this Lombard derby fixture. German Denis and Maximiliano Moralez are yet to create their deadly partnership from last season. Stefano Colantuono is unable to call upon Ezequiel Schelotto, Guido Marilungo, Ivan Radovanovic, Adriano Ferreira Pinto and Daniele Capelli as they are out injured.
