2012-09-15 - Stevenage vs Crewe
A Sports Betting Pick by Lamps
Football : England : League One

Stevenage
Stevenage are going well under Smith with the side in 3rd place. This side are unbeaten all season and at the Lamex they will be expecting to continue this run.
Boro were held at home by Carlisle on opening day but haven't looked back since. Stevenage have won 3 of the last 4 games with victories over Orient (0-1), Oldham (0-1) and Coventry (1-2). Bizarrely both home games have ended in 1-1 draws so despite flying high in the table they are winless at home.
Going back into last season, Stevenage are unbeaten in 14 homes but they have only won 5 with all the others ending in draws. Last season they drew 4 at home in row, then won 3 in a row and currently the drawing run is back on with 3 straight.
In this 14 game unbeaten run Smith's side have scored in 12 of the games so win just 5 is a little worrying. Crewe have plenty of attacking threat and if the stats hold up Boro will need at least 2 to win this one.
Crewe
13th placed Crewe enter the Lamex with 7 points from 5 games. Having sold star player Powell in the Summer I expected the side to struggle but so far Gradi is doing an excellent job and this side is very much competitive in this division.
Crewe lost on opening day at home to an excellent Notts County (1-2). They bounced back well with a 2-1 win at Scunthorpe only to then get crushed at Brentford 5-1 the following week. Gradi has managed to steady the boat in the games since with a win over Coventry (1-0) and a decent draw with high flyers Tranmere (0-0).
This side has had to play both the top 2 this season and they haven't been overwhelmed at all. In the Tranmere game they had chances to win it and a narrow defeat to County is nothing to be ashamed of.
Both Crewe away games have gone over with both matches ending with a winner. Given the attacking nature of this side I see this trend continuing on Saturday afternoon.
Betting Verdict
I initially liked Stevenage here but they have been well backed and the early prices of evens are long gone. We can't ignore how good they are at home but their defence is a worry given the lack of home clean sheets.
The visitors are good for goals with 9 goals in their last 2 away games with both sides scoring in each. I backed overs in Crewe's last game and got burnt so I will give them one more chance.
Stevenage could get all 3 on their own here but if Crewe get at least 1 this should give us at least 3 goals. If pressed I would choose the home side but both the fixed market price and asian lines are not to my fancy. Overs is my play here with both scoring and most likely a home win.
