A Sports Betting Pick by Lamps
Football : England : League One
Saturday 8th September - Kickoff 3:00pm
Brentford
Rosler's Brentford currently occupy 11th place in the League One table and on Saturday they host Colchester at Griffin Park. The Bees have 5 points from their first 4 games and have been wasteful so far this year. With a struggling Colchester in town the side must start to kick on and start a run of victories.
Its been a tough start for one of the promotion favourites. Brentford failed to win any of their first 2 games drawing 0-0 at Bury and losing 3-1 at home to Yeovil. Fortunately the next 2 games have seen improvement with a thumping 5-1 home win over Crewe and then a 2-2 draw at Walsall after trailing 2-0.
The last game was rescued well but in all truth Brentford should have won being incredibly wasteful in front of goal. The good news is that it's now 7 goals in 2 games and finally we might be seeing the potential of the side.
At Griffin Park the hosts just have 1 win from 5 in League One games and that's a worry. That win was in the last home game and I'm expecting them to build on that win now that the winless run has ended.
Colchester
The U's have made a worrying start to the new season as Ward struggles to make an impression on the Essex based club. After 4 games Colchester have just the 3 points but they have have only lost once this year.
The other side of that stat is that the U's haven't won a game this season and that includes in cup competitions. I don't see this side as a relegation candidates at all but sooner or later they need to win because as the games tick by the pressure will only increase on them.
To be fair to the visitors they have played some tough sides in this league drawing at Preston 0-0 as well as home draws to Portsmouth 2-2 and Sheffield United 1-1. In their last away game they were humbled by top of the league Tranmere 4-0 and that's great preparation ahead of this one.
Betting Verdict
I would side with Brentford here but there's just enough doubt to put me off. Firstly the hosts have been poor in recent home games but have finally won which should relax them ahead of this game. Colchester were beaten well at Tranmere ending their 3 game drawing run but they can mix it with the best.
Around evens may be fair for some but I'm going to side with goals rather than a winner. 4 of the last 5 Brentford games have been overs in League One whilst the U's have had overs in 4 of their last 6.
I was tempted by both to score but at a nicer price I'm expecting one side, most likely Brentford to go on and win this game. With Donaldson and El Alagui up front they have a lot of talent but defensively they have been poor this year. Only fear is if both sides cancel each other out but with attacks better than defences I expect 3 goals here.
Good Luck
The Pick :
Brentford 2-1 Colchester
