Meadow Lane will host Shrewsbury as County look to build on their excellent start to the season. Curle is getting the best out of this side and they will be there or there abouts come the end of the season.
County are in 3rd place with 9 points from their 4 games played. Curle's side have recorded wins over Crewe (1-2), Hartlepool (2-0) and Bury (0-2). They also won midweek in the Football League Trophy at Scunthorpe (1-2) so that's 4 wins from 6 this season.
The only defeats have come to Bradford in the League Cup and to Walsall. Walsall were very fortunate to win that game as they were dominated from start to finish, however they scored against the run of play to snatch the points.
At Meadow Lane the side has struggled in recent games having won just 2 of their last 6 games. This is a worry but I think their current overall run of 4 wins in 5 is a better measurement of their ability rather than this bizarre run at home.
Shrewsbury
Turner's Shrewsbury are performing well following their promotion from League Two. With 5 points from their first 4 games the side are comfortably in mid table but Saturday's game at Notts County will be a really tough test.
I was worried about this side's confidence after they started the season with 2 defeats. Leeds outclassed them 4-0 in the League Cup and this was followed by an opening day loss at title contenders Sheffield United 1-0. However, Turner has managed to get his side back on the right path having avoided defeat in the next 3 games.
The 1-0 home win over Preston has been followed by 2 solid draws at home to top of the league Tranmere 1-1 and also 1-1 at 6th placed Stevenage.
Having to play the title favourites, two top 6 sides including the league leaders as well as League One giant in Preston is a very tough start early on. Notts County gets no easier but at least the side is competing against the best in the division and a result is not out of the question here.
Betting Verdict
County look a little over priced in this one given the gulf between the 2 sides. County are in excellent form but I'm guessing their poor home record is a negative for them. The visitors are unbeaten in 3 but they have lost 3 of their last 4 away games so to get 2.10 seems generous.
Curle will want to put right that poor loss to Walsall last time out in front of the home fans and I think he will get the win on Saturday. County are experienced in this league and know what it takes to take the points.
With Zoko, Hughes and Arquin this side has goals in them and given Shrewsbury struggles away from home I think they will make the difference. I can't praise Turner enough for the start his side have made but I give County a 55% chance of winning this so a 2.10 price is value. In places the home side are odds on so snap this price up before other bookies react and give us the fair price on a home win.
