Netherlands are the group favourites, and they open their qualifying campaign at home against Turkey, who have been very poor in their recent internationals.

Turkey are missing their goalkeeper, Demirel, and this means the odds on the Dutch win are understandable, hovering around 1.50 or even less. The Dutch disappointed at the Euros, and there is sure to be a reaction to that in this first game. They are at home, where there is massive expectation, more so because they are favourites, and then there is the new manager factor, as Luis Van Gaal takes charge following their crappy Euro showing.

The Dutch are absolutely loaded with talent, which is why they were Euro favs, as well as favs to win this group and qualify for the World Cup in Brazil. Up front, the manager is spoilt for choice as he has Huntelaar, who plays for Schalke, or Persie, who since making the move to Manchester United has not skipped a beat, picking up his English League form with 4 goals, 3 in his last match, against Southampton.

Like I said, that absence in the back of the Turkey defence will spell trouble. On the road against much better opponents I had doubts about them holding out. But against that forward lineup they will struggle.

The Dutch defence has leaked way too many goals recently but under the new manager that is the first thing I expect they will seek to fix. It makes me believe Turkey may well be blanked in this game, even if it means sacrificing that intrepid style with with the Dutch normally go forward.

BETTING VERDICT

So, I'm expecting the Dutch to score here, and if things go the way I expect, Turkey will get hit again trying to then chase it.
