Another one sided match for us early Friday evening, as Kazakhstan host the Republic of Ireland. I know, Ireland took a thrashing in the Euros but this is a big, big step down in quality of opposition.
Looking back at the qualifying matches for Ireland for the Euros I see they scored in all but 1 of their away fixtures. In 3 of those matches, at Estonia, Macedonia and Andorra they scored more than once. Any similar performance will see them take this game, and we can expect it because Kazakhstan have a terrible defence.
Kazakhstan managed to hold Austria to a draw and even get a narrow win of Azerbaijan but when they have faced stronger opposition they have been hammered. Turkey, Belgium and Germany all came here and scored several goals without conceding. Ireland aren't quite as good but they are still a team that played in the Euro, and the hosts aren't in the same league.
Erm, trying to think of a few more good points but there isn't much more to say here. How about another Borat impression? Ok, maybe not.
The Irish have a good experienced manager in Trapattoni and I think this is a match that will be played with an emphasis on defence. Going forward, I can't see Kazakhstan scoring at all, and that means there is only one bet for me to consider.
BETTING VERDICT
The price is more than fair and I must have a nibble at the away win.
