2012-09-04 - Forest Green Rovers vs Ebbsfleet United
A Sports Betting Pick by ArmchairPunter
Football – England – Blue Square Premier
Tuesday 4th September 2012 – Kickoff: 1945hrs
A trip to the quaintly named New Lawn is the next venue as hosts and second placed Forest Green Rovers entertain Ebbsfleet United on Tuesday night.
Forest Green Rovers
Forest Green Rovers have apparently had an injection of finances during the summer and the bean-counters will be happy with Forest Green’s start to the BSP campaign as they sit second only to Newport County who are just one point above them.
But Rovers could overtake them on Tuesday night and they will be confident of doing so as they remain unbeaten on home ground winning two and drawing one; a 1-1 draw against Cambridge United (not the worst result in the world), was followed up with 3-1 wins over new-boys Woking and Hyde.
Forwards Matty Taylor (who hit 10 goals last season) and Reece Styche have started as they left off last term with 2 goals apiece, while fellow forward James Norwood (1 goal, 3 assists) has provided valuable support.
Midfielder Phil Marsh has chipped in with a couple of assists as well, and keep an eye on Brazilian Magno Vieira as he’s likely to make a big impact as usual this season.
Ebbsfleet United
Visitors Ebbsfleet United go into this match on the back of their usual mixed bag of away form; a win, draw and loss are the returns so far for Liam Daish’s side as they won a 9-goal thriller on the opening day of the season at promoted Nuneaton Town, but since then they’ve gone 5 matches without another win, drawing against Wrexham and Lincoln City and losing to Braintree, Hereford United and Luton Town.
Looking at Ebbsfleet's away form, they’ve won just once in their last seven on the road conceding 19 goals and scoring 12 including a 1-3 defeat at tonight’s opponents back in April. They’ve conceded 9 goals away from home already (only Mansfield Town with 10 have conceded more so far), and whilst they can score goals, they’re more than likely to concede at least one more!
Forward Moses Ashikodi (2 goals) is their main threat up front along with Nathan Elder (2 goals), while midfielders Tom Phipp and Liam Enveer-Marum have also chipped in with a couple each so far.
But as highlighted, they’ve kept just one clean sheet in their last sixteen away from home and they’re likely to continue this trend on Tuesday.
The Betting Verdict :
Forest Green have weapons up front, and given Ebbsfleet’s poor defensive record away from home, I’ll back the hosts to win by more than a 1 goal margin (if they win by 1 goal your stake is returned); perhaps another 3-1 win for Forest Green here.
The Pick :
Forest Green 3-1 Ebbsfleet
