Catania was close to a perfect debut and a prestigious win against AS Roma at the Olimpico last weekend, but their victory was denied by a 90th minute goal from debutant Nicolas Lopez.

The same move was made concerning 30 year old striker Marco Borriello who failed to win a permanent move with Juventus after playing there a season, but was offered a new home in Liguria by Genoa.

Marco Borriello will be replacing Alberto Gilardino after the youngest players who have scored 100 goals in Seria A joined Bologna on the last day of the transfer period.

The season started well for Genoa, Luigi Di Canio’s men recorded an important opening day win over Cagliari thanks to second half goals from Alexander Merkel and Ciro Immobile.

These are two teams that played very well in the first round and they should offer a quality match today which in my opinion should be won by the hosts.

Catania have won their last four home games against Genoa in Seria A with the last one of these encounter which took place in February ending 4-0 for the Sicilian side.

I know that Genoa’s team has changed during this summer, but their disastrous away record from last season cannot be overlooked, they’ve lost 14 of the 19 games on the road. Genoa’s last away victory in Seria A was recorded back in December against Siena.
