O'Driscoll's Forest have made a pleasing start to the season collecting 5 points from 9 and remain unbeaten. Following the arrival of new owners this side is expected to push on this season and challenge for promotion. So, far so good on that front and up against newly promoted Forest another win is a possibility here on Saturday.
Forest crashed out of the league cup midweek, running into an inspired Wigan who scored some great goals in a 3-1 victory at the City Ground. This defeat follows back to back away draws against Bolton (2-2) and Huddersfield (1-1) and a 1-0 home win on opening day to Bristol City.
Including the first round of the cup, Forest have scored in every game this season registering 6 goals in 5 games. However, a worry is that only once have they scored more than 1 goal in a game. Whilst scoring 1 has been enough so far to remain unbeaten in the league eventually this will catch up with them and they really need to covert more chances.
On transfer deadline day Forest acquired Sharp and Coppinger both players that will help them going forward and scoring goals. Sharp has a very good record scoring 49 in his last 88 starts and is poised to make his debut in this game.
Charlton
The Addicks have an identical record to Forest, 1 win and 2 draws from 5 which is very encouraging from the promoted side. Boss Powell will want to keep his side in the division this season but if they keep this form going a top half finish could be a possibility.
Charlton's only defeat was at home to Orient in the first round of the cup. The game ended all square after 120 minutes before Orient won the shootout so it's technically 4 unbeaten for this side.
In the Championship games, a draw at Birmingham 1-1 was a good start given their exploits in the Orient game a week before. With 2 home games to follow, Charlton got their first win beating Championship contenders Leicester 2-1. This win was followed by another good result this time to Hull.
Last weekend's game was good because the side kept their first clean sheet but conversely it was always their first game in which they failed to score. Like Forest they have also scored more than 1 in just 1 game and just like O'Driscoll's side I think if Charlton are to win this when they need 2 goals themselves.
Betting Verdict
Forest's are favourites here and and given their new acquisitions I think they are a fair price to inflict Charlton's first defeat of the season.
Forest have some Premiership level players in their lineup like Sharp, Gunter, Guedioura, Ayala and Cox all of whom will ask plenty of questions to Powell's side on Saturday.
Forest should go well at home this season and whilst Charlton are enjoying this run up the table I think sooner or later they will drop down the table. Hopefully that starts on Saturday as O'Driscoll's side should just have enough to see off the Addicks.
