PREVIEW
The Mets won 3-2 yesterday despite batting just .188. Tonight they have arguably the best pitcher in MLB this season throwing the ball for them, and he is desperate to get back to his awesome ways. The Dodgers, who are reeling having lost 5 straight, cannot seem to score. They might be in for a troublesome evening.
The Mets have RA Dickey on the hill. He is 11-1 with a 2.31ERA and off a very poor start in his last outing, where he got hit for 5 runs by the Yankees in 6 innings. Prior to that, he had gone 5 straight starts without allowing an earned run, so you can imagine how pissed he must have been. Almost 45 innings of work without an earned run. Incredible. He's going to come out seriously concentrating to get his act back on track. Dickey is 5-1 over 7 road starts this term.
The Dodgers counter with Aaron Harang, who is 5-4 with a 3.81ERA. He has now gone 3 starts without a win. Why? Because the Dodgers can't score no more. Harang's Dodgers have scored on average just 15 runs combined in their last 10 games. That's 1.5 runs per game!
Harang may not have given up a bunch of runs, allowing no more than 3 in any of his last 6 games, but he is walking a lot of batters. That only happens when pitchers are struggling with ball control, so there is the potential for the Mets to score a bunch on him.
As I said, no wins in his last 3 starts, and Harang brings a mediocre record against the Mets, just 3-3 over 8 career starts.
BETTING VERDICT
I'll go with the Mets today, and take them on the RL for a bigger payout.
