Yesterday I predicted Denmark would get something out of their game against Germany as they needed to, while the Germans didn't, hence lacked the motivation. I was partly right, as we got the effort we needed from Denmark, but there was a problem. Their urgency and need to attack meant they were going to present chances to their unmotivated but highly dangerous opponent, who were not about to miss. After being pegged back to 1-1, the Germans scored late and beat the Danes. Expect something similar tonight.
Spain have been on a tear of late, having won 14 straight competitive games before they suffered a blip and got held to a 1-1 draw against Italy where they actually trailed at one stage. They've bounced right back though and scored early against Ireland before routing them. Croatia too scored a big win over Ireland but their draw against Italy means they need a win here to guarantee progress. Spain are through but a draw gives them top spot in the Group going into the knockout phase.
I have a feeling Cesc Fabregas will not be reinstated as playing with Torres up front clearly worked a lot better for Del Bosque. He may well see time from the bench, and can prove effective even in this role. Torres scored twice against Ireland but Cesc also has 2 goals this tournament, one in each game.
I won't bang on too much here as I know what my bet is going to be. Spain are priced way too low for the win, despite being the likely winners. Croatia will have to attack and they are likely to get caught on the break time and time again as Spain look to match Germanys record and progress in style. Torres hit form for his club at the end of the season but where he really shines is when he's playing with his international teammates. If he's through on goal he is very very unlikely to miss and I am surprised to see the prices available on him to score.
